Educator Spotlight

Meet Andrea鈥攁 K-12 World Language Coordinator at Denver Public Schools (CO).

鈥淭eaching a language means opening up new pathways and possibilities for students, by exploring the infinite ways one can live out the human experience.鈥

Career Highlight

I love attending our district's annual Seal of Biliteracy celebration! Last year we recognized over 1,400 students. An auditorium packed with proud families celebrating the gift of multilingualism is a wonderful reminder of my 'why'!

On Being an 糖心Vlog Member

I value the well-vetted research, recommendations, and professional development offered by 糖心Vlog. We owe it to our students to be anchoring our classes in high-leverage, evidence-backed practices, not just vibes or a potpourri of what we enjoyed when we were students.

I know I can trust 糖心Vlog to point me in the right direction. Plus, the friendships and collaborations that blossom at each year's 糖心Vlog Convention inspire and delight me!

Advice for Next-Gen Teachers

Find your people! Find them in online forums, at conferences, and in your district. Don't be afraid to reach out to well-known language teachers and ask questions. Teachers are incredibly generous with their resources and ideas and tips. You do NOT have to reinvent the wheel!

Favorite Word or Phrase in Another Language

This year I have been saying to my students: 鈥Hagan bien y no miren a quien鈥 (Do good without looking at who). I like the inclusivity of it. Let's be nice without being selective. Everyone is worthy of kindness.

On Teaching a Language
